Award-winning essay collection includes faculty contributions

The Nebraska Sandhills,” a richly illustrated collection of essays celebrating the history, geography, ecology and culture of Nebraska’s Sandhills, was recently named the winner of the 2025 Nebraska Book Award in the Nonfiction: Nebraska as Place category.

Faculty members from the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, including Sherilyn Fritz, Erin Haacker, Adam Houston, and David Loope, contributed to the book. Fritz was also a co-editor.

The book was published by Bison Books, an imprint of University of Nebraska Press.

The award is sponsored by the Nebraska Center for the Book. Sandhills Express and Tri-State Livestock News ran articles on the award.
