Dr. Nancy “Nan” Lindsley-Griffin was born January 13, 1943 in Dallas, Texas to parents Robert Porter Lindsley Jr., and Dorothy (Johnston) Lindsley.

Nan married John Griffin June 27, 1963 in Dallas, Texas. She spent 27 years as a Professor of Geology specializing in Structural Geology at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and upon retiring was named Professor Emeritus. She belonged to the Geological Society of America, Association for Women Geologists, and the Association of American Petroleum Geologists.

Nan enjoyed travel, trying to understand the geology of the places she worked and visited, wine tasting, and collecting American Indian art.

She passed away November 20, 2017 and is survived by her husband, Dr. John R. Griffin; brothers, Robert Porter “Pete” Lindsley III, and Alan Lindsley; and sister, Sue Beth Lindsley Aceves. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held in July 2018 in the Scott Mountains, the area she loved, where she conducted research since 1970.
